About Me – The Naked Snail Guide

Hi there!

My name is Dora Halas. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I am a pedagogue, a musician and a coach. I am interested in alternative ways of education and self-development. I like to experiment with holistic, playful and creative approaches in all my fields.

I come from a Hungarian family and was born in Budapest, however I spent most of my childhood and teenage years abroad, growing up in Damascus (Syria) as a young child and attending the British Falcon school in Nicosia (Cyprus) for most of my secondary school years. This is where my love for the English language stems from and this is where I learnt to work in a team and form strong communities. I believe that my flexible and progressive thinking, along with my open and broad perspective is a direct result of the education system I was fortunate to experience.

Currently I am teaching English acquisition online, working in vocal projects and training to become an MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) teacher. I created the Naked Snail Movement in early 2024 to bring coherence to my diverse activities.

I am temporarily living in Berlin with my family – my husband and two boys (the designers of the logos for my projects).

In the first 25 years of my professional life I founded experimental choirs and musical communities, including the renowned Hungarian ensemble Soharóza. I was also the musical director of some truly wonderful artistic projects like the Catwalk Concert Productions. I have researched and written a doctoral thesis about choral improvisation based on the 'collective composing' methods I experimented with together with my groups.

I have now stepped into a new phase in my life: a slower phase filled with much awareness. I am learning Mindfulness, Qi Gong and Tai chi, Breathworks, Anatomic Vocal Production, Cognitive Linguistics and Weaving. I am genuinely curious and excited to discover how my previous experiences will merge with my new learnings.

PRACTICE OFFER

Let's start getting to know each other.

This is not a course where I want to teach a SEA OF STRANGERS or a CROWD OF UNCARVED PUMPKINS (even though that would work out better financially).

I invite you to write a short text about yourself.

Say only the important things. What matters most to you right now? And what experiences or moments in your past have shaped who you are today? What is your motivation for being here?

Please do not use ChatGPT to perfect your text, let's have an honest presentation of who you are and where you're at in your English-language journey. You can however use a dictionary if you can't find a word at the back of your mind.

Feel free to share your introduction in the comment section below (do not underestimate the power of the Force ... um, the power of learning from others), but of course you can also send it privately to me at [email protected]. I would be more than happy to find out a little bit about you.
